To be fair, this is a v e r y short writing excercise. But in language learning it is best to start small. You don’t want to overwhelm your student! If he or she is able to write even only a few words then that’s a big achievement. Remember that language learning is a process- it does not happen from one day to the next. Often parents ask me after a German workshop for children, whether their children are doing any progress. Of course progress can be measured- I could test their children! And in a way I’m doing this every single time I ask them to tell what dog or cat is in German.
However, to me the best way to measure progress is motivation. As long as your child is motivated, he or she is making progress.
A challenging and fun atmosphere is the key! Do not stress your students. Let them explore their skills.
